Rodolfo “Rudy” Mercado Jr. has quietly made his mark on San Diego’s business community for years.
The LLME Senior Tax Manager is now gaining wider recognition. He was named a finalist in the San Diego Business Journal’s 2026 40 Under 40 awards and recently joined fellow honorees at University Club Atop Symphony Towers to celebrate their innovation, leadership and impact across industries.
Rudy’s story reflects the kind of perseverance and leadership this recognition emphasizes.
A first-generation Mexican American raised in North County by parents who instilled in him an unwaveringly strong work ethic and a belief in lifting others up. Rudy worked multiple jobs throughout college and became the first in his family to earn a degree. These lessons and experiences continue to shape how he shows up for clients, colleagues and his local community.
Rudy joined LLME as an intern in 2016 and has steadily grown right alongside the firm.
Today, Rudy leads some of LLME’s most complex client accounts. Known for bringing clarity to complex tax matters, he advises S corporations, partnerships and high-net-worth individuals, with a focus on commercial and multifamily real estate. But Rudy’s impact isn’t limited to his client work.
He’s shaped, and continues to lead, LLME’s recruiting, internship and onboarding programs. A graduate of California State University San Marcos, he regularly participates in career events and openly shares his story to inspire next-generation professionals. He’s also active in the CalCPA network and participates in firm-led community initiatives, such as volunteering with Serving Seniors and joining in the Heart Walk.
Whether advising his clients or fellow rising professionals, Rudy is genuine in his commitment (and enthusiasm) in helping others succeed. Congratulations, Rudy!
